Fighting subsides in Donbas, but shelling attacks continue - Ukraine military
KYIV. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The command of the Ukrainian counterterrorism operation in Donbass has reported that fighting has become less intense over the past 24 hours.
"Fighting has subsided in the zone of the counterterrorism operation over the past 24 hours. No hostile shelling attacks were registered between 10 p.m. on February 21 and 7 a.m. on February 22," Ukraine's military spokesman, Andriy Lysenko, said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Sunday.
"But the militia continue armed provocations, including with the use of heavy weapons," he said.
Forty-four "fire strikes" were delivered on Ukrainian forces' positions on Saturday, he said.
Ukrainian positions near Pisky, Opytne, Vodyane and Tonenke in the Donetsk area were shelled with multiple rocket launchers, artillery systems and mortars, he said.
Ukrainian positions were targeted four times in attacks, launched with tanks, mortars and fire arms in the Mariupol area, Lysenko said.
