IMF chiefs convening on March 11 to possibly okay new loan for Ukraine - minister

KYIV. Feb 25 (Interfax) - The board of governors of the International Monetary Fund is getting together on March 11 to consider giving the go-ahead to a new loan for Ukraine, the Ukrainian finance minister said on Wednesday.

"The IMF board of governors has made a positive decision on a new loan as part of an extended fund facility," Natalie Jaresko said in Kyiv. She said that if the loan were approved, the first tranche might arrive within days of the March 11 meeting.

Jaresko said the IMF governors would only convene over the proposed loan if before March 11 Ukraine brought out a set of laws the IMF insists on. She said the government was in intensive talks with various political groups in parliament currently in seeking the earliest possible passage of such laws.
