Kyrgyz president urges Belarus to extradite Bakiyev and his family

BISHKEK. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev expects the Belarusian authorities to agree to extradite Kyrgyzstan's former leader Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his younger brother Zhanysh, who are suspected of involvement in the brutal murder of Kyrgyz mafia boss Almambet Anapiyayev in Minsk.

"The bloody criminal feud staged in Minsk a few days ago by notorious Zhanysh Bakiyev over his former confidant from the criminal underworld leaves no doubt that members of the Bakiyev family feel total impunity in Belarus and continue to kill with their cut-throats," Atambayev said in a statement, seen by Interfax on Thursday.

The published testimony given by a witness of this crime "leaves absolutely no doubt that Zhanysh Bakiyev and his accomplices murdered Anapiyayev right in the midst of a residential area of the Belarusian capital," he said.

"I very much hope that respected [Belarusian President] Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko and the friendly Belarusian people will eventually realize that they gave shelter to monsters," the Kyrgyz president said.
