Egypt, Russia think alike on intl antiterrorism coalition - minister

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Egypt and Russia agree on the need for forming an international coalition to fight the terrorist threat, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said.

As to the draft resolution of the UN Security Council concerning Libya, which has been submitted by Egypt and some other countries, Egypt and Russia agree on the significance of an international antiterrorism coalition, he told Russian reporters.

The minister said he had discussed the draft resolution with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

The two countries agree that terrorism should be fought both in Libya and around the globe, Shoukry continued.

Interfax asked the minister when the draft resolution might be put to a vote. The time is irrelevant, Shoukry replied.

The Egyptian draft is all-inclusive, it covers plenty of aspects of the Libyan situation, he said.

For instance, the document declares the need to form an international coalition for fighting terrorism in Libya, to block Libyan maritime borders in order to stop arms contraband from that country, to lift the international embargo on arms supplies to the Libyan authorities and to promote a political dialogue in the country, the minister said.
