Court puts "Bolotnaya case" suspect under house arrest
MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The Moscow Basmanny Court has put Ivan Nepomnyashchikh, a suspect in the criminal case involving the May 6, 2012 riots in Moscow's Bolotnaya Square, under house arrest.
The court chose house arrest because Nepomnyashchikh has no criminal record and has chronic illnesses, an Interfax correspondent has reported.
According to the court decision, Nepomnyashchikh will stay under house arrest until April 6 (the date of the end of the investigation).
Justice Artur Karpov has decided that Nepomnyashchikh will stay under house arrest in Sergiyev Posad, where he lives wit his parents and sister.
He is banned from commenting on the course of the investigation, using communication devices (except to talk to investigators and his defense lawyers and to call emergency services), cannot use the Internet or mail, and cannot leave his apartment without the investigator's permission.
The court believes these restrictions can provide conditions for an unimpeded investigation in accordance with the legislation.
The court has thus declined the investigators' request for the suspect to be taken into custody.
The Investigative Committee earlier told Interfax the 30th suspect in the criminal case is suspected of "participation in a mass riot" and "violence against an authority."
