Policemen did not use physical force at National Bank protest - Kyiv police
KYIV. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Officers of law enforcement agencies did not use physical force against people attending a protest outside the Ukrainian National Bank building in Kyiv, the Interior Ministry's branch for the city said in a press release on Friday.
"A group of citizens were holding a protest near the National Bank of Ukraine at around 9:00 p.m. The protesters were using construction pallets to build a fence. They also brought barrels and car tires to the National Bank building. Municipal workers arrived at the action venue. They tried to dismantle the tents, barricades and other reinforcements installed on the pavement. As a result, clashes erupted between Kyiv residents, municipal workers and protesters. Soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine separated the people in order to prevent further unlawful actions," it said.
"The municipal services then received an opportunity to do their job. They removed the barricades and took them out of the city center. Meanwhile, two citizens called an ambulance to the National Bank building and said that they had been injured during the dispute," it said.
"Police are verifying this information. Law enforcers themselves did not use physical force against the sides in the conflict," according to the press release.
