Truce holding in Luhansk region with sporadic shootouts
KYIV. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The ceasefire is generally holding in most of the Luhansk region in the east of Ukraine, but sporadic gunfire was heard there last night, the Luhansk region administration, headed by Kyiv-appointed Governor Hennadiy Moskal, said on its website.
At around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, militia forces fired mortars against the 29th checkpoint on the Luhansk-Artemivsk motorway in the Popasna district, it said. No one was killed or injured.
In a separate development, sporadic shootouts involving small arms, grenade launchers and mortars broke out between the militia and Ukrainian government forces near the village of Krymske in the Novy Aydar region. The village was not affected by the shelling. No Ukrainian servicemen were killed or injured.
No shelling was reported in other parts of the Luhansk region, including Stanytsia Luhanska, the town of Shchastya, the village of Troitske, the town of Popasna, and the village of Trokhizbenka of the Novy Aydar district.
