Party led by President Rahmon wins parliamentary elections in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE. March 2 (Interfax) - The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, which is led by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, received 65.2% of the votes in the Sunday parliamentary elections, the voter turnout being 87.7%, Shermuhammad Shokhiyon, chairman of the Central Elections and referendums Commission, said on Monday.
The Agrarian Party, the Economic Reform Party, and the Socialist Party have also made it to the parliament. The Socialist Party has made it to the parliament in Tajikistan for the first time in history.
"The People's Democratic Party received 2.4 million of the votes, or 65.2% of the votes, in the elections to the lower house of the parliament of Tajikistan, which were held on March 1, 2015. The voter turnout was 87.7%," Shokhiyon told a briefing.
