Putting pressure on Savchenko inquiry unacceptable - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - Moscow has reaffirmed its opposition to attempts at putting pressure on the investigation opened against Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, held in Moscow for her possible involvement in the murder of Russian journalists in the south-east of Ukraine.
"We have said more than once that it is unacceptable to interfere in Russia's internal affairs or put pressure on the investigation," the Russian Foreign Ministry's envoy for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, Konstantin Dolgov, told Interfax on Tuesday.
Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Tom Malinowski told Russia's Kommersant newspaper Washington believes that holding Savchenko on the territory of Russia is illegal.
