Sofia ready to examine terms for Russian gas supply to Europe - Bulgarian deputy PM

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - The Bulgarian government sees no alternative to natural gas supplies from Russia and is ready to assess the terms for gas shipments as part of the Turkish Stream project, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, Ivailo Kalfin has said.

"Today Europe is trying to limit Russian gas supplies. But there is no alternative to them at the moment. This is the position of the Bulgarian government. And we should work together and ensure Russian gas shipments to Europe on the most beneficial terms," Kalfin said at a meeting with Konstantin Kosachyov, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, the upper chamber of Russia's parliament, on Thursday.

Sofia intends to analyze the terms for Russia's planned gas shipments to Turkey, he said.

Kalfin also announced Bulgaria's readiness to raise this issue within the European Union in order to consider the possibility of "dividing the flows" and the possibility of reviving the Nabucco project.
