Spain wants 'fruitful dialogue' over Ukraine between EU, Russia - minister
MOSCOW. March 8 (Interfax) - Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, who has arrived for a visit to Moscow, said Spain would work for "conditions to be created for a fruitful dialogue" over the Ukraine crisis between the European Union and Russia.
The EU sanctions against Russia, "being stimulatory, are reversible," Garcia-Margallo told Interfax. "They will be lifted if the circumstances that brought them forth disappear. This means that the future of the sanctions is directly conditional on the implementation of the Minsk agreements of February 12 of this year and on the end of the crisis in eastern Ukraine."
Asked what position Spain would take at a planned EU summit this month that would review the sanctions, the minister said: "It's not the right time now to theorize about the circumstances and decisions of the upcoming meeting of the EU Council. We want conditions to be created for a fruitful dialogue and for getting over the present-day stage as soon as possible. May you have no doubt that this is the goal that Spain is working toward."
