Belarus hopes to narrow gap over visa issues with EU
MINSK. March 12 (Interfax) - Minsk is hoping to bring its position closer to that of the European Union (EU) on the issue of easing visa formalities, a spokesperson for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told Interfax on Thursday.
"Today Minsk is hosting a third round of talks over a draft agreement to relax visa formalities between Belarus and the EU. Belarus is hoping to further narrow the gap between our country and our EU partners over the draft agreement and to agree upon several provisions which raised questions earlier," the spokesperson said.
The Belarusian side at the talks is represented by officials from the Main Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry, and the Interior Ministry's Department for Citizenship and Migration; the EU is represented by officials from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Home Affairs, the spokesperson said.
Previous rounds of consultations between Belarusian and EU experts on the subject of easing visa formalities were held in June and November 2014.
