Ex-Romanian president gets Moldova award

CHISINAU. March 14 (Interfax) - Former Romanian president Traian Basescu has been presented with Moldova's highest military award - the Stefan cel Mare Order.

According to the presidential press service, Moldovan President Nicolae Basescu signed a decree, awarding the Order to Basescu "in recognition of his special role in strengthening stability, security and democracy in the region, and of his consistent support for the Republic of Moldova in strengthening defense, security and law enforcement personnel."

The Stefan cel Mare Oder is conferred on winners for outstanding achievement in military service, and in strengthening the country's defense capability and security. The former Romanian president is the first to receive this award. Presidents are normally decorated with the Order of the Republic, or the Order of Honor. Basescu is a bearer of the Order of the Republic.
