Contender for Kazakhstani presidency fails to pass language test
ASTANA. March 15 (Interfax) - Head of Ecological Stability public association 64-year-old Serik Mukash from Shchuchinsk, Akmola region, has failed to pass the Kazakh language examination, chairman of the linguistic commission Myrzatai Zholdasbekov has announced.
"The conclusion of the linguistic commission is that Serik Mukash does not have a fluent command of the official language," he said to journalists on Sunday.
Kazakhstani legislation requires that in order to be registered as a presidential candidate the contender should pass an official language examination.
The early presidential election in Kazakhstan has been scheduled for April 26.
