Shoigu: Crimea was under threat of military provocation as S.Ossetia was in 2008

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. March 15 (Interfax) - The coup in Kyiv was carrying a threat of real military provocation to Crimea, similar to the one South Ossetia got confronted with in 2008, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

"Yes, indeed, when the first military units appeared, the Berkut [special police force] advanced urgently, assumed positions, closed the border there and started monitoring all this. But most importantly, Kyiv pulled up forces which apparently planned to enter and to start what is happening in eastern Ukraine now," Shoigu said in a documentary, titled "Crimea. Return to the Motherland," released by Rossiya 1 television.

Shoigu was commenting on whether a real threat of military provocation existed in Crimea similar to the one in South Ossetia in 2008.
