Recognition of Moldova's European perspective promotes radical reform - PM
CHISINAU. March 16 (Interfax) - Moldova expects the European Union to recognize its "European perspective," Moldovan Prime Minister Cyril Gaburici told the European Union's Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn.
"Recognition of Moldova's European perspective will intensify rapprochement with the European Union and be a stronger stimulus for radical reforms, perhaps painful at the beginning, but absolutely necessary for Moldova's further modernization," Gaburici said.
Gaburici and Hahn discussed reforms and restructuring, ongoing in Moldova under its obligations compliant with the association agreement with the EU, the government press service said.
Hahn reaffirmed the European Union's support for the Moldovan government, noting that reforms should be continued as a guarantee of Moldova's further modernization, the pres service said.
Hahn also emphasized the importance of a judicial reform, fight against corruption and stabilization in the banking sector.
The leadership of the Alliance for a European Moldova said that Moldova would apply for EU membership in 2018 with hope that it would get the status of a candidate member.
