Konstantinovka police can shoot to kill if provoked - Ukrainian interior minister's adviser
MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The law enforcement agencies in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, have been given permission to shoot to kill in the event of provocation, the Ukrainian interior minister's adviser Anton Herashchenko said.
According to earlier reports, a serviceman from a Ukrainian military unit lost control of the vehicle he was driving and ran over passers-by in the city of Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, on March 16. A woman and a child were hurt in the road accident. The girl, who was aged 8, died of the injuries.
The online publication novosti.dn.ua reported that some 100 people conducted a picket near the dormitory of an industrial vocational school in Konstantinovka, where the Ukrainian military live, to protest the incident. "The crowd broke windows and set fire to some tires," the report says.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said the servicemen responsible for this road accident will get tough punishment.
"If someone in Konstantinovka stands up against the laws of Ukraine with weapons in their hands, using this road accident to cause massive clashes, one warning shot will be fired and then shots will be fired to kill. If there is no time for warning, shots will be fired to kill immediately," Herashchenko said on 112 Ukraine television.
