Moscow condemns terror attack in Tunisian capital - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 18 (Interfax) - Moscow has condemned the attack in the Tunisian capital and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

"Moscow resolutely condemns this barbaric act of terror in the Tunisian capital. We express our sincere condolences to the relatives of those killed. We reaffirm our firm solidarity with the Tunisian authorities in their efforts to counter the terror threat and neutralize all extremist manifestations across the country," the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of Information and Press said in a commentary posted on the ministry's website on Wednesday evening.

According to the Tunisian Interior Ministry and local media reports, two terrorists armed with automatic rifles attacked a tourist coach bus parked outside the Bardo Museum, near the building of the Tunisian parliament, in the afternoon of March 18. As result, one Tunisian man and seven foreigners were killed and over ten people injured. Some of the tourists, who included Britons, Italians, French and Spaniards, were taken hostage.

"According to the Russian Embassy in Tunisia, there were no Russians at the Bardo Museum," the ministry said.

By now the operation carried out by Tunisian security forces in the area has ended. Both terrorists were eliminated, one Tunisian policeman was killed.
