No link between assigning special title to air-assault brigades and events in Ukraine - Peskov
MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - The assignment of "guard" title to three military formations, including two airborne brigades, is in no way related to the developments in Ukraine, the Kremlin has announced.
President Vladimir Putin signed decrees assigning the honorary title to the 11th and 83rd separate air-assault brigades and the 38th separate signal regiment.
Answering questions from journalists presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stressed that any link between these decrees and the conflict in Eastern Ukraine "is out of the question. We know that Russian armed forces, regular troops did not have and do not have anything to do with these developments," he said.
He added that such decrees are usually signed "for a summary of merits".
The decrees state that the military formations are assigned the honorary title "for heroism, boldness, staunchness and courage demonstrated by the personnel in combat defending the Fatherland and state interests in conditions of armed conflicts" and also for "merits in peaceful times."
