No plans to evacuate Russians from Yemen - embassy

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - There are no plans at the moment to evacuate Russian citizens from Yemen because of the exacerbation of the situation in this country, which also concerns employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Sana'a, Russian embassy spokesman Timofei Bokov said.

"As there have been very few requests from Russian citizens - they are singular - we are not planning any evacuation measures or actions either in relation to the embassy employees or Russian citizens living in Yemen," he said.

Saudi Arabia's airstrikes in Sana'a have targeted mostly military facilities located quite far from the Russian embassy, he said.

It was reported earlier that Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. Adel A. Al-Jubeir had announced on Wednesday that his country had started delivering airstrikes upon the Houthis in the Yemeni capital of Sana'a.

Saudi Arabia said it was ready to deploy 100 warplanes and 150,000 servicemen in defense of the legitimate Yemeni authorities against the Houthi insurgents.

He said also that the operation against the Houthis in Yemen would be international and would involve countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and some others, particularly Egypt.
