Russia mindful of possible U.S. arms supply to Ukraine, plans military programs - Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - Possible supplies of weapons from the U.S. to Ukraine would undermine the Minsk agreements and directly threaten Russia's security, says Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.
"Weapons supplies to Ukraine from the U.S. are fraught with the disruption of a fragile truce in Donbas and directly threaten the Russian Federation's security," Lukashevich said at a news briefing on Thursday.
"On our part, we have to take into consideration these militant plans and instigative statements in pursuing our own military development programs," he said.
Russia is also concerned about the concentration of U.S. military units near its borders, Lukashevich said.
"In connection with this, we have serious questions about the designs harbored by the Americans and the NATO bloc they lead. We view the discussions continuing in Washington regarding the possible supply of weapons to the Ukrainian authorities as nothing but a deliberate fomenting of tensions," he said.
