Large-scale drills under way in southern Kazakhstan

ASTANA. March 30 (Interfax) - Large-scale exercises were launched in the Kazakh Defense Ministry's South regional command center on Monday.

More than 450 servicemen were put on high alert on March 30 as part of drills, which are expected to continue until April 4, Kazakhstan's Defense Ministry said in a press release on Monday.

According to the scenario of the exercises, forces of the South regional command were put on high alert and were then ordered to redeploy their weapons and military hardware to another area, the ministry said.

"Such practical drills are the best way to boost the collective spirit and coordination of troops. Here each soldier is a member of one team. He performs his maneuvers and demonstrates his combat readiness, which is crucial to achieving the most effective result and the highest quality of the entire personnel," it said.
