EU has no concerns about Greek PM's upcoming visit to Moscow - diplomat

MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax) - Vygaudas Usackas, the head of the European Union Delegation to Russia, is sure that relations between Russia and Greece "will not drive a wedge" between Greece and the EU.

"It would be wrong to live in the hope that Russia may drive a wedge between the EU countries by political and diplomatic measures," Usackas said on the Moscow Speaking radio station when asked to comment on Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's upcoming visit to Moscow.

The EU will welcome Russia's financial assistance to Greece if "this is done transparently," he said.

Tsipras is expected to visit Moscow on April 8.

Usackas said also that the theme of WWII still remains relevant for Europe. "The war theme has not lost its significance for Europe. It's just the opposite," he said.

At the same time, talking about reasons behind the decision by a number of European leaders not to go to Moscow to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the V-E Day, Usackas said, "It's not that important where [to celebrate]. What's important is that we should commemorate the war sincerely and with respect."
