Tajikistan mudslide kills at least 10 - emergencies agency
DUSHANBE. April 4 (Interfax) - At least 10 people died on Friday as a mudslide ran over an irrigation canal while workers were repairing it to get it ready for springtime farming, and another three people were might be buried under a mass of rubble and earth, the Emergency Situations Committee said on Saturday.
The tragedy occurred in the village of Yakkabed of Mehrobod jamoat in Faizabad district, about 50 kilometers east of capital Dushanbe, at the end of the working day.
The Committee said in a statement that the workers were "young people."
Villagers said 13 people had gone missing. After that, 10 dead bodies were recovered from the mud by the time the Committee put out its statement. However, there was no definitive casualty toll.
