Chinese minister: China-Russia relations promote global peace, security

BEIJING/MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - The development of China-Russia relations is an important factor promoting global security, peace and stability, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Interfax shortly before his visit to Russia.

"The dynamic China-Russia relations not only make a significant contribution to the development and prosperity of our countries but also bolster peace, security and stability in the region and the world as a whole," the minister said.

Personal relationship and frequent contacts between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are playing an important role in bilateral relations, he continued.

"President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, as two chiefs of state and influential world leaders, have had eight bilateral meetings and four telephone conversations and exchanged over 30 letters and cables in the past two years. They are maintaining high-level political contacts, a close working relationship, and profound friendship," the Chinese minister pointed out.

The contacts "yielded a number of important agreements broadening and deepening Chinese-Russian relations of comprehensive partnership, strategic interaction and multilateral collaboration," he said.

Regular contacts between the Chinese and Russian leaders will be continued this year, Wang said.

"The two chiefs of state will attend many events this year. They will participate in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the victory in WWII and meet on the sidelines of BRICS, SCO, G20 and APEC summits," he said.

The mechanism of regular meetings between the prime ministers, the committee on cooperation between legislatures and intergovernmental consultations give an additional impetus to China-Russia relations, the minister added.
