Russian, Bahraini chief prosecutors agree on cooperation
MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - Russia's Prosecutor General Yury Chaika and his Bahraini counterpart Ali bin Fadel Al Buainain have signed a first Russian-Bahraini inter-agency cooperation agreement, Russian Prosecutor General's Office spokeswoman Marina Gridneva told Interfax on Monday.
"The document stipulates cooperation in important areas of activity of Russian and Bahraini prosecutors such as protecting human rights and liberties, cooperation over extradition, and legal assistance in criminal inquiries," Gridneva said.
The memorandum also calls for conducting joint scientific studies, conferences, workshops, roundtables, including in exchange of information over national legislation and experience in organizing its enforcement, as well as cooperation in training and re-training prosecutors.
Chaika said he is certain that implementation of the memorandum "will help establish not only close working ties between Russian and Bahraini prosecutors in fighting crime and protecting human rights and liberties, but it will also foster the formation of joint positions over the issues that are central at international forums and organizations," Gridneva said.
For his part, the Bahraini attorney general stressed that this is the first time that a Russian official of such a rank is visiting his country. "For Bahrain, it is especially important to gain the invaluable experience of the Russian prosecution authority whose history spans almost over three centuries," Al Buainain said.
