Russia needs in-depth scientific forecast of threats, challenges - Patrushev
MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has suggested relying on science in fulfilling the task of providing Russia's national security.
"Today, in this dynamically changing world, to resolve the urgent issues concerning national security we need, like never before, credible expertise, fresh ideas, an in-depth scientific forecast of challenges and threats, as well as a scientific justification of alternative solutions. Science is the foundation of security," he told the Security Council's scientific panel in Moscow on Wednesday.
Under the February decree of the Russian president, titled 'On the composition of the Russian Federation Security Council's scientific panel,' this includes 150 Russian scientists and specialists, of whom 39 are new members, Patrushev said.
The scientific panel includes 33 members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 65 doctors of sciences and 33 candidates of sciences, he said.
