Russian diplomat, French, German ambassadors discuss Normandy Quartet meeting in Berlin on Apr 13

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and State Secretary Grigory Karasin discussed the situation in Ukraine and preparations for an upcoming meeting of the Normandy Quartet foreign ministers in Berlin with French Ambassador to Russia Jean-Maurice Ripert and German Ambassador Rudiger von Fritsch at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

"Relevant aspects of the developments in Ukraine were discussed during the conversation. The importance of consistent implementation of the Package of Measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements of February 12 approved in the declaration by the leaders of Russia, Germany, France, and Ukraine was mentioned," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement available on its official website.

The meeting was "focused on the need of strict adherence to the ceasefire, the soonest possible completion of heavy weapons withdrawal and verification of this process by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, the arrangement of a real political dialogue between Kyiv and southeastern Ukraine, and the start of a real constitutional reform taking into account the interests of all districts of Ukraine, including its southeastern part," it said.

"Special significance was attached to the establishment of working groups on political, humanitarian, socioeconomic, and security problems," it said.

The diplomats discussed "various aspects of preparations for an upcoming meeting of the Normandy Quartet foreign ministers in Berlin on April 13," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
