West, Russia should exert pressure for settlement in Ukraine - head of COE Committee of Ministers
MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - The EU and the United States should use the potential of their influence on Kyiv to make the Ukrainian authorities observe the Minsk agreements while Russia should exert pressure on representatives of the self-proclaimed republics, Chairman of the Council of Europe (COE) Committee of Ministers Didier Reynders has told Interfax.
He said that in his opinion the EU and USA and other members of the international community can influence Kyiv in order to make the process of the implementation of the Minsk agreements move.
At the same time the willingness of representatives of separatists to participate in the political dialogue is important for the process of a peaceful settlement, so pressure should be exerted on both sides to the conflict in Ukraine, he added.
Europe is ready to exert pressure on Kyiv so that the necessary part of the agreement would be fulfilled by the Ukrainian authorities, Reynders said. However, it is Europe's principled demand that Russia would also use its influence on representatives of Luhansk and Donetsk so that they would make the necessary changes.
