Military unit to counter cyber threats to be created in Crimea
MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry will form a military unit in Crimea to protect information systems from cyber threats, a source in the Defense Ministry told reporters.
"The new unit is expected to be deployed in October-November," he said.
The source said the functions of the unit will include "ensuring the cyber safety of its information systems" and, if need be, "disruption of the operation of the information systems of probable enemies and, consequently, disruption of the functioning of their troops control systems."
According to earlier reports, structures to protect Russian military command and control systems from the threat of cyber attacks are being created by the Defense Ministry.
