Ukraine forces repel militia attack in Trekhizbenka - Luhansk admin

KYIV. April 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian forces repelled a militia attack in Trekhizbenka, Luhansk region, on Saturday, according to the Luhansk Regional Military and Civilian Administration.

"Besides assault rifles, the militants used heavy machineguns, mortars, grenade launchers and quick-firing anti-aircraft guns. The enemy attack has been repelled, the enemy has been prevented from breaking into the village," the office of administration chief Hennadiy Moskal said in a statement. "According to preliminary reports, several Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the battle."

The battle, which lasted about two hours, erupted when a militia force came up to a destroyed bridge over the Siversky Donetsk River near Trekhizbenka around 10:30 a.m. and tried to break across the frontline.

The spokesman for the military operation in eastern Ukraine, Andriy Lysenko, told a briefing in Kyiv in a comment on the battle, which was still going on, that the intensity of the fighting "doesn't exceed the average level."
