December 5 Party joins opposition coalition
MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - The opposition December 5 Party has joined an election coalition, formed by the Republican Party of Russia - People's Freedom Party (RPR-PARNAS) and the Progress Party.
"The December 5 Party welcomes the RPR-PARNAS and Progress Party's initiative to form a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2015 and 2016 elections, and is joining it," the party said on its website.
It said honest and free elections were its main goal.
"We deem it important to form a competitive and transparent procedure of shaping one party list that would be trusted and supported by our sympathizers and potential voters. The procedure of decision-making within the opposition coalition must be as open as possible, take the opinions of all members into account and rely on the support of as many people as possible," the party said.
RPR-PARNAS and the Progress Party earlier announced plans to form a political coalition in a bid to draw up a single list of candidates who will run in the 2015-16 election cycle.
"The political forces which we represent - RPR-PARNAS and the Progress Party - are ready to assume responsibility for the future of the country. We are convinced that our alliance is the only political force to date which can challenge the injustice, lies and corruption on which the current leadership rests today. We will consolidate our efforts in the elections in 2015 and 2016," says a statement, signed by RPR-PARNAS Co-Chairman Mikhail Kasyanov and Progress Party leader Alexei Navalny, received by Interfax on Friday.
The parties plan to form single lists of candidates who will run for parliament in 2016 and take part in the regional and municipal elections in 2015.
The Democratic Choice Party has joined the RPR-PARNAS and Progress Party alliance already.
