UAC might revisit project to assemble Tu-204CM in Iran
ULYANOVSK. April 20 (Interfax) - United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is prepared to again consider the possibility of assembling Tu-204CM medium-range airliners at the Iranian aircraft plant in Esfahan in light of the possibility that some sanctions against Iran might be lifted, the head of the Russian state company, Yury Slyusar told reporters on Friday.
"We have been and are discussing this issue. I won't conceal the fact that a great deal of water has flowed under the bridge since we substantively spoke with our Iranian colleagues about the implementation of the Tu-204CM project. But we really hope that the advantages in regard to technological cooperation and import independence that we offered are still attractive to the Iranians, so we plan to continue working with them," Slyusar said.
He said this "refers to using the plant in Esfahan, which could carry out assembly, customization, as well as production of certain components and assemblies that the Iranians can do and that are used for production of this aircraft."
The Tu-204CM passenger plane, developed by the Tupolev design bureau, is produced at the Aviastar-JV plant in Ulyanovsk.
