Vostochny Space Center construction workers may go on hunger strike again

MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Twenty-two Vostochny Space Center construction workers in the Amur region are going on a hunger strike on Wednesday as arrears on their wages have not yet been paid.

"We downed tools on [April] 15 and are going on a hunger strike tomorrow. We have written a paper to the general director and the prosecution service. Bosses told our foreman pointblank today, 'You will achieve nothing no matter where you call or appeal'," a worker who identified himself as Yuri said on the Govorit Moskva Radio on Tuesday

There had been a hunger strike before but it stopped when workers began to receive their wages.

It was reported on Tuesday that Igor Nesterenko, General Director of CJSC Pacific Bridge Building Company (TMK), a contractor of the Vostochny Space Center project, was taken into custody on the suspicion of fraud (part 4, article 159) and non-payment of wages (part 2, article 145.1 of the Russian Criminal Code).

According to the detectives, the TMK General Director has not paid wages to 1,121 employees since December 2014. He could have paid the wages but ordered to spend the money on other needs of the company instead.
