Weekly inflation in Russia quickens to 0.2%, annual stays at 16.8% - Rosstat

MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - Inflation in Russia accelerated to 0.2% in the week April 14-20, from 0.1% the previous week, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

Weekly inflation had been 0.2% since February 5, except for the week March 24-30, when it was 0.3%, and April 7-13, when it was 0.1%.

Consumer prices have risen 0.5% since the start of April and 7.9% since the start of the year. They grew 0.9% in April 2014, 0.2% in the third week of April 2014, 0.6% in the first 20 days of April 2014 and 3% in the period January 1-April 20, 2014.

| Average daily price growth was 0.023% in the period April 1-20, 2015, down from 0.030% in the whole of April last year.

Going by Rosstat's weekly data, inflation in annual terms remained at 16.8% as of April 20. This is still above the Central Bank's key refinancing rate, which is 14% pa, and which the Central Bank might decide to lower at its next rate-setting meeting on April 30, given that inflation appears to be slowing.

The past week saw prices rise 0.8% for tea and 0.4%-0.5% for canned meat, kolbasa sausage, margarine, biscuits and sweets, however they fell 0.8% for eggs, 0.6% for cheeses, sugar and buckwheat, and 0.1%-0.3% for chickens, butter, rice and millet.

Prices rose 2.5% for cabbage and 1.5%-1.8% for onion, carrots and fresh tomatoes, and fell 2.9% for cucumbers, 0.5% for potatoes and 0.3% for apples.

Gasoline prices were unchanged and diesel prices rose 0.1%.
