Kazakhstan won't change its domestic, foreign policies - Nazarbayev

ASTANA. April 27 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who won the presidential elections on April 26, says Kazakhstan has no need to change its domestic and foreign policies.

"The most dangerous thing is to begin some new turns in the state. I think the plan of action for political reform and for the creation of the state until this day [should remain the same], yesterday's elections confirmed that the people support the policies that we had. For this reason, we have no need to change our domestic policies, let alone foreign [policies]," Nazarbayev told a briefing in Astana on Monday.

He warned that "serious changes" are needed for the declared five institutional reforms.

"However, there will be very serious changes in the five institutional reforms. It requires state funding and changes in the new personnel training, attestation of everyone that we have so that the people can see that people get into public service through their merits. That is what meritocracy is about," the president said.
