Ringleader who pledged loyalty to ISIL killed in Dagestan
MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - Khasmagomed Charanov, leader of the 'Aukhovskaya' gang killed in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan, was a follower of the terrorist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the National Antiterrorism Center reported.
"He [the militant] has been tentatively identified as Khasmagomed Charanov, the leader of the 'Aukhovskaya' gang born in 1974 who pledged his loyalty to the international terrorist organization ISIL and was a federally most wanted person," a Center representative told Interfax on Monday.
According to the information possessed by the NAC Operative Staff, he organized and perpetrated a number of crimes, including armed attacks on police officers and extortion from businessmen.
A source in the Dagestani law enforcement authorities told Interfax earlier that Khasavyurt ringleader Khasmagomed Charinov was killed in a shootout in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan.
