Naryshkin shares Czech president's dream of future EU-Russia integration

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin agrees with Czech President Milos Zeman's idea that Russia and the European Union should start discussing future integration right now.

"It is high time not only to dream about this but also to say this out loud. It is high time to begin consultations," Naryshkin wrote in his op-ed published on the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper website on Tuesday.

Zeman told the Russian service of Czech Radio last week that he was dreaming about Russia joining the European Union or the EU joining the Russian Federation in the future.

Naryshkin does not think this is a fantasy and believes that integration dialogue can become a positive agenda between the EU and Russia.

"This is not only that it takes decades to resolve such issues. Just there is almost no space left for creation. There is no positive agenda, which may now seem untimely or even unrealistic but is totally realistic in fact. Russia was and remains a member of the family of European peoples," the State Duma speaker wrote.
