Ukrainian firefighters tackling three blazes in alienation zone around Chernobyl

KYIV. April 28 (Interfax) - Firefighters in the Kyiv region are trying to put out fires in three locations in the woodland around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the State Emergency Situations Service said.

The firefighting effort involves 182 personnel and 32 pieces of equipment. In particular, a Mil Mi-8 helicopter with water-dumping systems, a Europcopter and two Antonov An-32P firefighting aircraft are being used for aerial reconnaissance and firefighting.

The first water was dumped at 3:05 p.m. The firefighting continues.
