Forest on fire near Chernobyl; firemen prevent spread towards NPP - official

KYIV. April 29 (Interfax) - A forest is burning over 320 hectares in the Special Exclusion Zone in Kyiv region, however, firefighters have stopped the fire from spreading towards Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP), head of the Ukrainian State Service for Emergency Situations Zorian Shkiriak has announced.

"As for the large-scale forest fire in the territory of the Exclusion Zone. Units of the State Service for Emergency Situations have stopped the spreading of the fire towards the Chernobyl NPP. The encasement facility is out of danger," he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
