Crimean Prosecution Service detains Azov fighter on terrorism suspicions
SIMFEROPOL. May 1 (Interfax) - A member of the Ukrainian National Guard Azov volunteer battalion has been apprehended in Crimea on suspicions of preparing a terror attack near the Crimean Prosecution Service's building, the press service of the Crimean Prosecution Service said in a report.
"He was taken into custody," the press service quoted Crimean Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya as saying.
Poklonskaya said the same detainee was suspected of setting fire to the Simferopol Chukurcha Mosque.
A series of high-profile terrorist and extremist crimes has been detected by joint efforts of the Prosecution Service and regional departments of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service.
A bag containing explosives was found near the Crimean Prosecution Service's building in Simferopol in August 2014. The Crimean department of the Federal Security Service looked into the attempted terror attack.
