U.S.-Danish aircrew to fly Open Sky mission over Russia
MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax) - A joint U.S.-Danish crew is expected to fly an Open Skies mission over Russia from an airfield in Khabarovsk, compliant with the Treaty on Open Skies, chief of the Russian Nuclear Threat Reduction Center Sergei Ryzhkov told the media.
The unarmed aerial surveillance mission will be flown aboard a U.S. OC-135B plane between May 4 and 8, he said.
"Russian military experts will be aboard the aircraft to ensure that the flight parameters and the observation gear to be used, comply with the treaty," Ryzhkov said.
The OC-135B is not intended for carrying weapons. The aircraft and the surveillance equipment it carries were internationally certified with the participation of Russian experts, which excludes their use for purposes other than those listed in the treaty.
