Russian Military Doctrine remains defensive after adjustment - Russian Security Council secretary

MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Military Doctrine has retained its defensive nature following adjustment, says Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

"Its defensive nature and Russia's commitment to the use of military measures to protect its national interests only after exhausting all opportunities for non-violent measures have been preserved," Patrushev said in an article to be published in the Wednesday issue of Krasnaya Zvezda.

The new edition of Russia's Military Doctrine focuses more on internal problems and issues related to informational confrontation, Patrushev said.

The amendments to Russia's Military Doctrine were made at the end of 2014, Patrushev said. The amendments concerned the Doctrine's provisions dealing with deterrence and prevention of military conflicts and defining the primary functions of the armed forces and other troops, the development of the military organization, the equipment of the armed forces, and the development of the defense-industrial complex.
