Several thousand Ukrainian military who took part in operation in eastern Ukraine have been treated for mental illnesses - head of Rada committee
KYIV. May 7 (Interfax) - Over 5,500 Ukrainian military have been treated for mental illnesses since the beginning of the military operation in eastern Ukraine, Olha Bohomolets, the head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on healthcare, said.
"According to the Defense Ministry's psychiatric service, 5,500 military members have received treatment for mental disorders, 35% of the servicemen were seen to have some sort of mental instability, and 800 military have been diagnosed with post-trauma stress since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation," she told a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
Bohomolets said a program to self-manage post-trauma stress for military men was drawn up to provide psychological assistance to participants in the operation. This booklet will be distributed among discharged participants in the operation and experts.
