Units operating on basis of Northern Fleet help boost level of security in Arctic - Putin
SOCHI. May 12 (Interfax) - The joint strategic command, established on the basis of Russia's Northern Fleet, has helped boost the level of security in the Arctic, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.
"The establishment of the joint strategic command on the basis of the Northern Fleet has helped enhance the level of security in the Arctic and modernize military infrastructure in this region which is crucial to Russia," Putin told a session addressing the Russian Armed Forces' development on Tuesday.
The development of new universal samples of weapons for military and special-purpose hardware will allow Russia to reduce the number of their types by one-third, he said.
"It means that the implementation of our entire weapons procurement program will cost us less. This will also help us cut both production and maintenance costs by one-quarter," Putin said.
Russia's concept for developing an Armed Forces automated command system over the period up to 2025 will make it possible to gradually raise the effectiveness of the Armed Forces' command even further, Putin said.
