Satellite Communications Company to launch broadcast satellite for Latin America

MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Satellite Communications Company (Kosmicheskaya Svyaz) plans to launch a telecommunications satellite, Express-AM8, in the third quarter of 2015, company spokesman Andrei Kirillovich said on Tuesday.

"The launch of the Express-AM8 satellite has been scheduled for the third quarter of 2015. It will be put into a geostationary orbit at 14 degrees West Longitude over the Atlantic Ocean," Kirillovich said during the presentation of the Express-AM satellite program at an exhibition, Sviaz-ExpoComm-2015."

Kirillovich also said that the satellite's position will allow it to cover several countries, including Latin America: Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela.

"A discussion is underway whether this satellite can be used to broadcast TV programs from the summer Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016," Kirillovich said.
