Sochi talks on Ukraine, Iran, Syria were frank - Kerry

WASHINGTON. May 12 (Interfax) - The United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, has described as frank the discussion he had with Russian leaders in Sochi on Tuesday of the Ukrainian conflict and other international issues.

Kerry wrote on Twitter that he had frank talks with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov over key issues, including Syria, Ukraine and nuclear talks with Iran.

It is important to maintain lines of communication between the U.S. and Russia at a time when we are dealing with global issues, Kerry said.

For his part, U.S. State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke told the press that the aim of such contacts with Russia is to make sure that the U.S. position (on international issues) is made absolutely clear.
