Two men suspected of supporting terrorism detained in Estonia

TALLINN. May 13 (Interfax) - The Estonian Internal Security Service (KaPo) has detained two men suspected of supporting Islamist extremists, Eesti Ekspress reported on Wednesday.

In particular, the Security Service detained Ramil Khalilov, a 24-year-old student of the architecture department of the Estonian Academy of Arts, on April 14, and Roman Manko, 30, a former boxing champion of Estonia, the next day.

"They are suspected of financially supporting activities of their acquaintance, Abdurrahman Sazanakov, a member of a terrorist unit in the Syrian Arab Republic," Prosecutor Laura Vaik said.

Eesti Ekspress said Khalilov and Manko had given Sazanakov about 4,000 euro.

"At the present phase of the investigation, it is impossible to name the exact size of the sums that they provided. In addition, the prosecution is seeking Abdurrahman Sazanakov's arrest, and the court found his arrest as necessary," she said.

Estonian media in January reported a story of Ivan Sazanakov, 31, a Russian living in Tallinn. After losing his job, he went to Egypt to study the Arabic language, where he apparently met recruiters who persuaded him to go fighting to Syria. He changed his name to Abdurrahman, and some people who had known him previously saw his picture with a grenade launcher among jihadists in social media.
