Georgian PM urges Moldovan counterpart to refrain from contacts with Saakashvili - media

TBILISI. May 14 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakly Garibashvili has talked on the phone with Moldovan Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici to ask Chisinau not to accept former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's assistance in pursuing reforms, the Georgian Pirveli radio station reported with reference to an unnamed source.

Garibashvili warned during the conversation that, if Moldova invites Saakashvili as an adviser on reform, this would have a negative effect on Georgian-Moldovan relations, the report said.

The Georgian prime ministerial press service said Gaburici invited Garibashvili to pay an official visit to Chisinau on June. The parties discussed details of such a visit and prospects for promoting partnership between the two countries, it said.

Georgian media have reported that a group of reformers set up by Saakashvili is currently visiting Chisinau to hold working meetings with Moldovan government officials.

Saakashvili met with Gaburici in Kyiv several days ago, and the Moldovan prime minister reportedly asked the former Georgian president to help Moldova conduct reforms.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on Wednesday to endorse the composition and statute of the Advisory International Reform Council and appointed Saakashvili its head.

The Georgian prosecution service had earlier unsuccessfully demanded that Ukraine extradite Saakashvili, where he has been charged in a number of criminal cases.
