Lavrov upbeat about Serbia's OSCE chairmanship
BELGRADE. May 14 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday expressed optimism about Serbia's current chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, with Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic being OSCE chairperson-in-office.
"We always try to implement agreements that are reached by our leaders - presidents, prime ministers. We deeply appreciated the participation of [Serbian] President Tomislav Nikolic in the celebrations in Moscow of the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War II and the participation of Serbian soldiers in the victory parade," Lavrov said on his arrival for a two-day visit to Serbia.
He said the Russians were aware that there had been festive and emotional anniversary events in Belgrade as well.
"I think that in this atmosphere we will definitely achieve constructive agreements in support of the Serbian chairmanship of the OSCE because one of the main tasks there is to promote documents that would confirm our loyalty to peace, security and cooperation throughout the European continent," Lavrov said.
"I'm convinced that in the quite difficult current situation in our continent, the chairmanship of Serbia and personally Ivica Dacic in the OSCE is a good guarantee that we will achieve well-considered and balanced results that suit everyone," the Russian minister said.
The main events of Lavrov's visit to Serbia, including talks with Dacic, Nikolic and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, are scheduled for Friday.
